Basics of hardness measurement using a rubber / plastic hardness tester (durometer)

Press the pressure surface (needle surface) of the rubber / plastic hardness tester (durometer) firmly held by both hands vertically at a constant speed against the flat surface of the sample placed on a flat surface, and the maximum indicated immediately after close contact. It reads the value, and that value represents "hardness".

Basic conditions when measuring with a rubber / plastic hardness tester (durometer)

1) The measurement position should be 12 mm or more inside from the edge of the sample, and the interval should be 6 mm or more.

2) The thickness of the sample is usually 6 mm or more.

3) Use the median or average value of 5 locations as the hardness value.

4) If the measurement result is type A and 50, it is written as "A50".

5) The test environment is a temperature of 23 ± 2 degrees and a humidity of 50 ± 5%.
